<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an atomic oscillator wherein a circuit portion can be made compact and its power consumption can be saved easily. <P>SOLUTION: The atomic oscillator 1 uses the electromagnetically-induced transparency that is caused by irradiating alkaline metal atoms with a resonant light pair, and has a light source 10, alkaline metal atoms 20 in the form of gas, a light detection unit 30, and a frequency control unit 40. The light source 10 generates a plurality of coherent lights including first light and second light with respectively different frequencies and casts them on the alkaline metal atoms 20. The light detection unit 30 receives a plurality of lights 22 that have passed through the alkaline metal atoms 20 and generates detection signals 32 including a beat signal having a predetermined frequency obtained by interference of the plurality of lights 22. The frequency control unit 40, based on the beat signal with the predetermined frequency included in the detection signals 32, controls the frequency of the first light and/or the second light so that the first light and the second light may be a resonant light pair to cause the electromagnetically-induced transparency to the alkaline metal atoms 20. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
