PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact, lightweight charging device in which a power unit is separated from a terminal unit to ensure stable placement of a battery pack at charging operation. SOLUTION: The charging device includes a battery pack connection unit 10 having an insertion hole for connecting the battery pack connection unit 10 to a battery pack 20, a power adaptor 1 having a bayonet plug 3a, and a cord 5 connecting the battery pack connection unit 10 to the power adaptor 1. The power adaptor 1 has an AC voltage converter. The battery pack connection unit 10 has a rectifying circuit which rectifies converted alternating current, a current cutoff circuit which controls supply and cutoff of current to a connection terminal 25 of the battery pack 20, and a charge completion detecting circuit which detects the completion of charging of the battery pack 20 and controls the current cutoff circuit. The battery pack connection unit 10 is configured to be lighter in weight than the battery pack 20, and the battery pack connection unit 10 is to be attached, so that the battery pack connection unit 10 can be mounted on top of the battery pack 20.
