PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for compaction of the ground, of which the method can be applied to the hard ground or the ground containing masses of rock or coarse-grained materials, and which can reduce the cost and period of construction and can improve the construction quality. SOLUTION: A penetration assisting device 10 is fitted to the part lower than a rotary position of a front end opening/closing panel 30 fitted to a front end of a penetration rod penetrating into the ground for compaction.
