The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for processing video signals. The video signal processing method according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a block coding step, in which an input signal is first split into blocks of a predetermined size and subject to blocking coding; and a DC transform step, in which a DC transform process is carried out on a DC value generated after the block coding, wherein the DC transform step involves determining the size of a DC transform block and generating a specific number of virtual DC values required for the DC transform block that has been determined. With various embodiments proposed in the present invention, encoding and decoding of images can be done in an efficient manner. For instance, the use of virtual DC values makes the DC transform (e.g., 'Hadamard transform') efficient, and an optimal kernel index obtained enables high efficiency direction transform (e.g., 'MDDT').
