<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electric solid state device which can prevent substrate damage even when manufacturing an electric solid state device substrate composed of a tempered glass substrate having a functional layer from a large glass substrate. <P>SOLUTION: In the manufacture of a touch panel substrate 20 composed of a tempered glass substrate having a functional layer such as electrodes from a large glass substrate, when chemical tempering is applied to the large glass substrate 200 to produce a large tempered glass substrate 200f, areas along cutting lines 200t are formed into low strength areas 200u composed of non-tempered areas 205u.
