The system (10) has a fuel cell stack (12) electrochemically converting an atmospheric oxygen (22) with a fuel (18) and including a low temperature-fuel cell. The fuel cell stack includes a cathode region (14) with an air supply (20) and an air removal part (24) for a cathode exhaust (26). The air supply includes a low pressure component (30) for creating overpressure, and the air removal part comprises another low pressure component (38) for creating low pressure such that the cathode region is acted upstream with the overpressure and downstream with the low pressure. The low temperature-fuel cell is selected from a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, alkaline fuel cell, phosphoric acid fuel cell, or direct methanol fuel cell. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a fuel cell system. |
