Disclosed is a cutting insert wherein on cutting faces (12) of an insert body (11), breaker sections (15) are provided which are disposed at locations nearer the centers of the cutting faces (12) as seen from cutting edges (14), and which are formed at such locations of the insert body (11) as are more inwardly recessed than the cutting edges (14) in the thickness direction of the insert body (11). Furthermore, seating sections (16) are provided which are disposed at locations nearer the centers of the cutting faces (12) than are the breaker sections (15), and which are formed at such locations of the insert body (11) as are more inwardly recessed than the breaker sections (15) in the thickness direction of the insert body (11). The cutting faces (12) are formed as a pair on two surfaces of the insert body (11), consisting of a front surface and a back surface both of which face outward in the thickness direction of the insert body (11).
