<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the speed of read-modify-write processing of a host device and improve the reliability of a nonvolatile memory in a storage system comprising the host device and a nonvolatile storage device. <P>SOLUTION: When receiving a read-modify-write command from the host device 2, the nonvolatile storage device 1 maintains data read with the read command in a buffer 113.
