PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermittent coating method which enables the starting edge and the ending edge of a coating area to approach to linear lines without making them curbed significantly, as well as an intermittent coating device. SOLUTION: The preset time T1 is set before/after the time at which the coating surface Wa of a base W begins to be brought into contact with a coating liquid on the outer circumferential surface of a coating roll 6 during coating operation. The preset time T2 is set before/after the time at which the coating surface Wa of the base W is made to break away from the coating liquid on the outer circumferential surface of the coating roll 6 during non-coating operation. The proceeding/receding position of a tension adjusting roll 4 is controlled following the forward/backward transfer of a coating changeover roll 3 so that the tension value of the base W within the preset time T1 and T2 is increased more than the tension value at any other time than the preset time T1 and T2.
