<p>Disclosed is a process for the production of a plasma display panel which has both a discharge space and a protection layer facing the discharge space. The process comprises: introducing a gas that contains a reducing organic gas into the discharge space to expose the protection layer to the reducing organic gas; exhausting the reducing organic gas from the discharge space; and then encapsulating a discharge gas in the resulting discharge space.</p>
