Provided is a metal coating film for electromagnetic wave transmission, which exhibits sufficient metallic luster in appearance. Also provided is an optimal method for forming said metal coating film for electromagnetic wave transmission. As the metal coating film for electromagnetic wave transmission, the surface of a base is provided with a metal coating film: which is formed from a cluster of minute islands obtained by means of the electroless plating step, and surrounded by minute cracks functioning as the transmission path for electromagnetic waves; which exhibits metallic luster; and which has 2 to 10000 minute islands in one unit area (1mm2).
