A vehicle latch comprises an inside operating lever 15 disposed between a casing and cover movable, e.g. pivotal, between a neutral position, door handle actuation position, and an assembly position; in the assembly position a holding means retains a child lock lever 17 in the child-proof locked state or the child-proof unlocked state such that the various levers are held stationary during assembly to enable the cover to be easily mounted. The cover may have an aperture 93 through which the inner operating lever 15 projects, a broader portion 93a of the aperture corresponds to the assembly position. Preferably the holding means comprises a floating pin 22 located within a slot 152, which may be a t-shaped slot or z-shaped, in the operating lever 15 and slot 171 of child lock lever 17. |
