The appliance has a gas burner (2), and a gas supply line (4) guided to the gas burner and a gas valve (5). An electrical energy storage (18) temporarily supplies electricity to an electrical control member (6) such as stepper motor, during discontinuation of current supply. The storage comprises a secondary cell e.g. nickel-metal hydride battery, and a condenser e.g. blocking layer condenser. The control member is controllable by an electronic control unit (11). A current supply unit (16) is connectable to a household electricity main.
