PURPOSE: An electromagnetic flowmeter using an infrared sensor is provided to reduce the operational current of the infrared sensor because a pair of infrared elements are placed in a closed case, thereby extending the life span of the sensor. CONSTITUTION: An electromagnetic flowmeter comprises an impeller(20), a cover(30), infrared ray emitting/receiving elements(41,42), and circuits(50,51,52,53). The impeller has an optical path opening and closing part(22) on the axis thereof. The cover has an optical path through tube(31) which is made of a transparent material to sense rotation through optical signals. The infrared ray emitting/receiving elements are installed on the exterior of the optical path through tube, corresponding to the infrared path opening and closing part. The circuits are connected to the infrared ray emitting/receiving elements to sense rotation.
