[Also in Group XL (a)] In a mechanism for adjusting the spacing between two relatively displaceable elements, e.g. the grids 11, 12 of a klystron, and indicating the adjustment, two adjustment members 23, 33 having co-operating screw threads and carrying co-operating marks such as 46 to give an indication of the relative spacing are coupled one to each element so as to alter said spacing by a screwing action. The zero may be set by adjusting one member relative to its element and the other member without altering said spacing. Flanges 17, 18 which are connected to the grids 12, 11 of a reflex klystron, both accommodate an adjusting rod 23. Said rod carries threads 31, 29 of different pitch; the latter being screwed into flange 18. A second adjustment member 33 comprises a sleeve over rod 23 and carries like internal and external threads, the former engaging threads 31, and is locked within this section of its length to flange 17, by nuts 38, 39. Because of the threading on sleeve 33 it can be rotated with nut 38 loose and both locking nuts and rod 23 prevented from rotating to bring its top opposite a zero marking 46 on the rod 23 without moving the flange 17. The nuts 38, 39 are then tightened and the klystron is tuned by rotating rod 23. Rod 23 carries annular markings 46 at its upper end symmetrically disposed with respect to the zero 46 and the sleeve 33 carries at its upper end a contiguous member 42 the upper face of which carries radial calibrations (Fig. 5, not shown) to indicate the relative angular position of rod 23.
