摘要
811,998. Filters. FAS-FLO FILTER CORPORATION. Aug. 24, 1955 [Aug. 31, 1954], No. 24370/55. Class 46. In the filtration of a liquid such as sugar juice, steam is admitted at 22, Fig. 1. to warm the interior of a casing 10 and filter leaves 13, Fig. 3, arranged horizontally in two tiers. The steam is discharged through individual leaf outlet pipes 16, 16a arranged in a semi-circle. A suspension of diatomaceous earth in, e.g., previously-filtered juice, is now admitted at 24 providing, e.g. 10 lbs. per 100 square feet of filtration area. The filtrate therefrom is discharged into a semi-circular trough 18 arranged on the cover 11 underneath the pipes 16a, and after reception in a selected compartment of a trough 20 is recirculated until clear (by direct observation at 16a). Next, juice to be filtered is introduced at 25 under pressure, and the filtrate received in a second compartment of the trough 20. Thereafter the casing is drained at 27 and hot water is introduced at 23, the "sweet water " being received in the third compartment of the trough 20. The cakes are now removed by pressure water issuing from spray arms 42 rotated by a sluice pipe 39 to which they are attached. Compressed air admitted at 56 maintains the filter cloths 36 flat. After draining the cycle is repeated. Each filter " leaf ", 13, Fig. 3, is constructed for filtration through its upper surface only, being provided with drainage channels 29, 30, (32, now shown) communicating with a sump 31 to which the outlet pipe 16 is connected by a quick-release screw coupling 34. The leaves rest on supports provided on bars 12, 15, secured to the cover 11 so that the cover, outlet pipes, bars and leaf assembly may be lifted as a unit from the casing 10, the bars 12 being guided by flanges 55, Fig. 3, after which any leaf may be removed by uncoupling it from its outlet pipe and sliding it to the right, Fig. 3. In Fig. 9 the leaf assembly is mounted instead on a base 60, and it is the casing 61 which is removable. Liquid to be filtered (or, during sluicing, compressed air) is introduced by two diametrically-opposite pipes 73, each communicating with the lower end of a hollow support member 65a having perforations just above its leaf supports. Pipes 22 to 24 are provided as before. Filtrate is discharged through sight glasses 67 and a swingable gooseneck pipe 68. Rotating spray arms fed at 44 are provided as before. In both embodiments individual filtrates may be cut off by valves 17 ; and a safety valve 53 is provided in a by-pass 52 for a vent valve 51. The casing of the embodiment of Fig. 9 may be in two or more portions, at least one of which may be moved laterally.
