摘要 <p>Provided are an image signal processing apparatus and an image signal processing method whereby, when input images are converted, by use of a frame rate conversion, to television images, interpolation images, in which judders and/or side effects caused by inserting the interpolation images are inconspicuous, can be generated. A motion vector detecting unit (102) uses preceding and subsequent frame pictures of a frame memory (101) to detect the motion vectors of the input images. When a combination ratio of the original picture of an immediately preceding frame and a predicted picture predicted from the motion vectors is controlled, in accordance with a motion vector reliability level calculated by a vector reliability level calculating unit (104), to generate an interpolation image, an upper and lower limit limiter (105) sets upper and lower limit values to the calculation result of vector reliability level. A fallback amount calculating unit (106) calculates, based on the vector reliability levels the upper and lower limits of which have been set, a fallback amount, thereby reducing extreme judders and/or prediction side effects, thereby obtaining frame-rate-converted images in which the motions are smoother and the side effects are inconspicuous.</p>
