<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve contrast in a projection image display device (projector) using a reflection type liquid crystal panel. <P>SOLUTION: The projector includes: a projection lens projecting light from reflection type liquid crystal panels for red and blue; and a first polarizing beam splitter guiding the S-polarization light of red light from a light source to the liquid crystal panel for red, the P-polarization light of the light from the liquid crystal panel for red to the projection lens, the P-polarization light of blue light from the light source to the liquid crystal panel for blue, and the S-polarization light of the light from the liquid crystal panel for blue to the projection lens. A first polarizing plate transmitting one of the S-polarization light and the P-polarization light and absorbing the other and a first 1/4 wavelength plate are provided between the first polarizing beam splitter and the projection lens in order from the side of the first polarizing beam splitter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
