<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for reading magnetic ink characters capable of making a magnetic ink character reading operation higher in speed without increasing a size or cost. <P>SOLUTION: The device 7 for reading magnetic ink characters includes a control unit 26 for controlling the drive of a magnetic head 10, a magnetic head conveyance mechanism 12 to read a magnetic ink character 2b of a check 2. The control unit 26 accelerates, during a going operation for magnetization, the magnetic head 10 from the left-end home position 10A of a left scanning path 112 to an acceleration end position 10C in an inner scanning path 111, thereby making the moving speed of the magnetic head 10 reach a first speed (step ST11). During a returning operation for reading, the control unit accelerates the magnetic head 10 from a turn-back position 10B to the start position 10E of the inner scanning path 111, thereby making the moving speed of the magnetic head 10 reach a second speed lower than the first speed (step ST21), and then moves the inner scanning path 111 at the second speed (step ST22). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
