PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for classifying a face type, and a record medium storing a program for achieving the method which easily perform the optimum face type classification as a reference for selecting a hair style and a makeup from face photo data of a subject without any special knowledge and know-how. SOLUTION: The apparatus for classifying a face type includes: means for acquiring position data on each of predetermined feature points from face image data of the subject; means for classifying the face into any type of an inner face or an outer face based on the horizontal axis position data showing the left eye, right eye, and the left end and right end of the face contour; means for classifying the face into any type of an upper face or a lower face based on the vertical axis position data on the upper end of the forehand, the lower end of the jaw, and the upper ends of the right and left eye holes; and means for classifying the face into any type of an up type face or a down type face based on the vertical axis position data showing the outer ends and inner ends of the right and left eyes, the left end and right end of the nostril, and the center of the nasal tip.
