The display device has display units for displaying image information on the transparent area of a vehicle in the viewing direction of a vehicle occupant, which perceives a scene in the viewing direction such as a head-up display or a translucent matrix display. An electronic unit is provided to show the information provided by the vehicle in selected areas in the scene in the form of direction sign. An independent claim is also included for a method for displaying information by a display device.
