PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition effective in preventing or treating diseases in which an inflammatory cytokine mediates, and which develop or are aggravated, especially septic shock, acute organopathy and organ failure, and various organopathies produced by ischemic reperfusion. SOLUTION: The anti-cytokine mediation disease agent includes water-soluble vitamin E derivatives shown by general formula of drawing, or their salts permitted in pharmacology as an active ingredient. In the formula, R1and R2same or differently denote a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R3and R5differently denote a hydrogen atom, or an SH compound having S binding or its ester (however, excluding cysteamine), R4denotes a hydroxy group, an N-substituted amino acid or its ester (however, excluding aminoethane sulfonic acid, aminoethane sulfinic acid) or an amine compound.
