摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition useful as a cathode for a lithium ion battery. <P>SOLUTION: The cathode composition for the lithium ion battery contains lithium with formula (a) Li<SB>y</SB>[M<SP>1</SP><SB>(1-b)</SB>Mn<SB>b</SB>]O<SB>2</SB>or (b) Li<SB>y</SB>[M<SP>1</SP><SB>(1-b)</SB>Mn<SB>b</SB>]O<SB>1.5+c</SB>(in the formulae, 0&le;y&le;1, 0<b<1, and 0<c<0.5, and M<SP>1</SP>represents one or more types of metallic element. In the case of (a), however, M<SP>1</SP>is a metallic element other than chromium.) The composition is in a form of a single phase having an O3 crystal structure that does not undergo a phase transformation to a spinel crystal structure when incorporated in a lithium-ion battery and cycled for 100 full charge-discharge cycles at 30 &deg;C and a final capacity of 130 mAh/g using a discharge current of 30 mA/g. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
