<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device and a projector, with which display quality with high reliability can be obtained by controlling a pretilt angle of liquid crystal molecules. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 includes a liquid crystal layer 30 having negative dielectric anisotropy held between a pair of substrates 15, 25. The pair of substrates 15, 25 includes substrates 11, 23 and alignment layers 12, 22 formed on the surfaces of the substrates 11, 23, respectively, and in contact with the liquid crystal layer 30, wherein the surface roughness of the substrates 11, 23 where the alignment layers 12, 22 are formed is less than 4 nm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
