PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect an entrance of a vehicle into a tunnel, in a relatively simple constitution. SOLUTION: This tunnel detecting device is mounted on the vehicle, and detects that the vehicle enters the tunnel, and includes a plurality of light emitting elements 1, 2 and 3 arranged so as to respectively output the light in the mutually different directions, an illuminance sensor 7 for outputting an electric signal corresponding to the intensity of the received light and a control unit 8 connected to the plurality of light emitting elements and the illuminance sensor. The control unit is the tunnel detecting device for the vehicle for detecting that the vehicle enters the tunnel when a component is extracted on all of the plurality of light emitting elements by extracting the component corresponding to the light outputted from the plurality of respective light emitting elements based on the electric signal outputted from the illuminance sensor.
