PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing material with separation preventing function capable of conducting the pipe joining work easily and quickly, and free of a risk to damage the outer peripheral surface of an insertion sleeve with pawl(s) of a lock when the insertion sleeve is inserted into a socket for joining together two pipes. SOLUTION: The sealing material 7 to be set in a sealing material accommodation groove 6 of the socket 3 is configured so that the lock 10 for precluding separation is embedded in the body 9 of the sealing material which has resilience and can be compressed, wherein the lock 10 is furnished with pawls 10a and 10b which bite into the outer peripheral surface of the insertion sleeve 5 when the insertion sleeve 5 is going to slip off from the socket 3, while the sealing material is furnished with a resilient piece 11 for rotation to abut to the outer peripheral surface of the insertion sleeve 5 at its being inserted and rotate the lock 10 in the direction that the pawl 10b goes apart from the outer peripheral surface of the insertion sleeve 5.
