PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent steam from being jetted by the misoperation of a drain valve in a structure to which a drain pipe with the manually opened/closed drain valve connected is connected to a chamber for storing and sterilizing a sterilizing object. SOLUTION: This steam sterilizer includes the chamber 8 for storing and sterilizing the sterilizing object; a cover 3 for sealing an opening of the chamber 8; a heater 10 serving as a steam generating means for supplying steam into the chamber 8 or generating steam in the chamber 8; a control means 21 controlling the heater 10 and the like; and the drain pipe 25 connected to the chamber 8 and having the manually opened/closed drain valve 24 connected to the drain pipe 25. The drain valve 24 is provided with a handle 27 for manually operating the drain valve 24, and a locking means comprising a plunger 31 with a plunger shaft adapted to be put in and out within a turning range of the handle. A control means 21 is configured to prevent the opening/closing operation of the handle 27 of the drain valve 24 by the plunger 31 when pressurizing the inside of the chamber 8.
