PURPOSE: A traveling route planning device and a method thereof are provided to improve the efficiency of the cleaning action by traveling according to the generated route. CONSTITUTION: A traveling route planning device comprises a pattern extracting unit(310), a pattern direction extracting unit(320), and a route generating unit(330). The ceiling of the space where the mobile robot moves is recorded. The ceiling image is obtained. The pattern extracting unit extracts in advance at least one pre-set pattern from the ceiling image. The pattern direction extracting unit extracts the pattern direction of the line-type from the extracted pattern. The route generating unit generates a traveling route using the extracted pattern direction.
