<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflective liquid crystal projector which can cope with both high contrast and high brightness. <P>SOLUTION: The reflective liquid crystal projector includes: a light source; a reflective liquid crystal panel 8 for modulating the light emitted from the light source; a wire grid polarization beam splitter element 54 which is disposed at such a position that light L21 modulated by the reflective liquid crystal panel 8 is made incident and which has a polarization beam split surface for reflecting first polarized light in the light L21 and transmitting second polarized light, the polarization direction of which is almost perpendicular to that of the first polarized light; a projection optical system for projecting the first polarized light reflected by the wire grid polarization beam splitter element 54; and aperture stops 33, 73 which are disposed on an optical path of the light emitted from the light source and used for limiting the amount of the first light, that extends to the polarization direction of the first polarized light from the reflective liquid crystal panel 8 to the wire grid polarization beam splitter element 54 more than that of the second light extending to the polarization direction of the second polarized light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
