PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing member having higher shock absorptivity. SOLUTION: The shock absorbing member 1 includes four connecting plates 4 for connecting both front face plate 2 and a back face pate 3. In a transverse section shape, the four connecting plates 4 are inclined with respect to a center shaft so that their inclination direction are inverted each other, and sets of the two plates are disposed line-symmetrically with respect to the center shaft O. A projection 5 is formed at both ends of the front face plate 2 and the back face plate 3. Relations of 20 mm≤H≤100 mm and 0.60≤(H/L)≤1.40 are satisfied where H represents a distance between an inner face of the front face plate 2 and an inner face of the back face plate 3 and L represents a half-length of width-directional dimension of the front face plate 2. When relations of 0.5≤α≤1.5 and 2.5≤β≤4 are satisfied, the distance of each point from the center axis is represented as follows: a point A1: -0.1×α×H+0.1×β×L, a point A2: 0.1×α×H+0.1×β×L, a point B1: 0.0227×α×H+0.222×β×L, a point B2: -0.0227×α×H+0.222×β×L.
