<p>Disclosed is a light emitting diode, which has two electrodes on the light taking out surface, and which has a high light taking out efficiency and a high luminance. In the light emitting diode (1), a compound semiconductor layer (2) having a light emitting section (7) including a light emitting layer (10), and a transparent substrate (3) are bonded to each other. A first electrode (4) and a second electrode (5) are provided on the side of the main light taking out surface (2a) of the compound semiconductor layer (2). The transparent substrate (3) has the upper surface (3A) bonded to the compound semiconductor layer (2), the bottom surface (3B) having an area smaller than the area of the upper surface (3A), and the side surface, which includes at least the tilted surface (3b) which is tilted toward the bottom surface side from the upper surface side. In plane view of the light emitting diode, the first and the second electrodes (4, 5) are disposed within a region having the bottom surface (3B) projected thereto.</p> |
