<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector allowing projection corresponding to the using environment by providing a light source unit using a fluorescence wheel where a plurality of kinds of phosphor layers having different properties on a reflecting surface are disposed. <P>SOLUTION: This projector is equipped with: the light source unit; a display element; a light guide optical system; a projection-side optical system; and a projector controlling means having a function as a light source controlling means. The light source unit is equipped with: an exciting light irradiation device having an excitation light source; the fluorescence wheel 101 for emitting fluorescence light; a wheel motor; a red light source device; a blue light source device; and a light source side optical system for condensing light emitted from the fluorescence wheel 101, red light source device, and blue light source device, to one predetermined surface.
