The device has a gripper carriage (1) movable along a sheet guide and comprising a cross beam (2) and a movable supported air guide element. Control agents are assigned to the air guide element for adjustment of spacing to the sheet guide. The air guide element co-acts with the cross beam in a region that is turned away from the sheet guide in two positions to form an aerodynamic closed contour. The air guide element and the cross beam comprise radius that are co-ordinated with each other. The gripper carriage has a gripper shaft (6) that is provided for supporting a gripper finger.
