<p>Disclosed is a display element which is capable of obtaining a good contrast ratio with a less amount of a color developing colorant, namely a display element which is capable of obtaining a good contrast ratio with low power consumption. Specifically disclosed is a display element which comprises a color development space between at least a pair of electrodes that face each other. The display element is characterized in that the color development space satisfies the following formulae (1) and (2). Formula (1): n2·d2 = 90 or n2·d2 = 185 Formula (2): 100 = n1·d1 = 175 (In the formulae, n1 and d1 respectively represent the refractive index n1 and the thickness d1 (nm) of the color development space when the display element has colored (or black) display; and n2 and d2 respectively represent the refractive index n2 and the thickness d2 (nm) of the color development space when the display element has white display.)</p> |
