PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily manufacturing high purity silica at a low cost. SOLUTION: The method includes a step (A) of mixing silica-mineral-containing rock and an aqueous alkaline solution to prepare an alkaline slurry of a pH of 11.5 or higher, and dissolving Si, Al and Fe contained in the silica-mineral-containing rock in the solution and then subjecting the obtained slurry to solid/liquid separation to produce a solution containing Si, Al and Fe and a solid; a step (B) of mixing the solution obtained in the step (A) with an acid, and adjusting the pH to be 7.0 or higher and 10.3 or lower to deposit Si in the solution and then obtaining a solid containing SiO<SB>2</SB>(high purity silica) and a solution by solid/liquid separation; and a step (C) of subjecting the solution obtained in the previous step to an ion-exchange treatment and an activated carbon treatment to recover impurities, wherein the step (C) is set between the step (A) and the step (B).
