PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and easily diagnose the healthiness of a bank by properly evaluating the scale (internal expanse state or the like) of the crack in the surface cover concrete of the bank. SOLUTION: In the method for investigating surface cracks of a bank, a crack tester, which is equipped with a container shaped water injection part 10 having an opening part, of which the peripheral edge can come into close contact with the surface of concrete, a water tank 12 which stores testing injection water and a communication pipe 16 equipped with a cock 14 and connecting the water tank and the water injection part, is used to install the water injection part so that the opening part thereof covers at least a part of the crack 30 to be investigated produced in the cover concrete of the bank and the peripheral edge of the opening part comes into close contact with the surface of the cover concrete. The water in the water tank is injected in the crack from the water injection part through the communication pipe and the scale of the crack is evaluated on the basis of the water injection state of the water in the water tank.
