<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording medium which can perform high linear-speed recording, obtains high-quality signals over a wide range of linear speeds, and has a proper signal preservation quality. <P>SOLUTION: The information recording medium 1 has a recording layer 15 which causes phase change, by iradiatation of a laser beam or application of a current. The recording layer 15 is formed by the first constituent layer to the X-th constituent layer (X is an integer equal to 2 or more), disposed in the order in the direction of the thickness of the recording layer 15.
