PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diffractive optical element in which the room for selection of optical materials being a range of optical material selection is widened. SOLUTION: The diffractive optical element 1 is obtained by stacking a first optical member 10 and a second optical member 11 and forming a diffraction grating at the interface 12 between the first optical member and the second optical member. The diffractive optical element 1 satisfies an inequality (1):α≥0.04 and an inequality (2): h≤263.18×α<SP>-0.9454</SP>(whereinα[mm<SP>-1</SP>] is the absorption coefficient of the first optical member 10; h [μm] is the grating height of the diffraction grating 12).
