PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder for a secondary battery electrode excellent in binding force with a collector or an active material in a system not using an organic solvent, wherein an electrode thus obtained is excellent in flexibility and conductivity. SOLUTION: The binder for the secondary battery electrode is made to contain a copolymer latex obtained by copolymerizing a monomer composition structured of (a) 5 to 35 pts.wt aliphatic conjugated diene based monomer, (b) 9 to 50 pts.wt unsaturated carboxylic alkyl ester monomer, (c) 2 to 40 pts.wt vinyl cyanide monomer, (d) 2 to 60 pts.wt alkenyl aromatic monomer, and (e) 0.1 to 20 pts.wt other copolymerizable monomer (wherein a total of (a) to (e) is 100 pts.wt), with a content (B+C) of a (b) component and a (c) component to a solid portion of the copolymer of 28 wt.% or more, and with its ratio to a content (D) of a (d) component to a solid portion of the copolymer of (B+C)/D=0.8 to 3.5.
