The invention relates to a unit (10) for fastening a component of a motor vehicle, in particular for fastening a trim part to a substrate, having a first retaining part (12) and a second retaining part (14), wherein the first retaining part (12) comprises at least one brace and the second retaining part (14) comprises at least one catch hook. The unit has a bar (15), which can moved between a release position, in which the catch hook is able to engage behind the brace or can be released therefrom, and a locking position, in which the catch hook is locked behind the brace, wherein the bar (15) moves automatically from the release position into the locking position. The invention also relates to a method for installing and uninstalling said unit.
