PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable obtaining a coated film which exhibits stainproofing properties immediately after forming the coated film, has high transparency, and is hard to affect the external appearance. SOLUTION: A coating composition includes, as essential components, a hydrolyzate of an alkoxide represented by the formula: Si(OR)<SB>4</SB>(wherein R is the same or different substituted or nonsubstituted 1-8C monovalent hydrocarbon group) and/or a partial hydrolyzate thereof as component (A), a mixture of fine particles of titanium oxide and fine particles of silica as component (B), a diluent solvent as component (C), and a surface tension adjuster as component (D) and the composition of the component (B) is in the range of the fine particles of titanium oxide to the fine particles of silica of 95:5 to 40:60, and the particle diameter of the fine particles of titanium oxide is≥10 nm to <100 nm, and the particle diameter of the fine particles of silica is≥10 nm to <300 nm.
