PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a zoom lens realizing the miniaturization of an entire lens system and having such high optical performance that chromatic aberration is satisfactorily corrected all over the zoom area. SOLUTION: The zoom lens has first to fifth lens groups having positive, negative, positive, negative and positive refractive power, respectively, sequentially from an object side to an image side. The second and fourth lens groups are moved during zooming operation. The third lens group has a positive lens composed of a material satisfying a condition ofν33×θ<SB>gF</SB>33>38 when an Abbe number and a partial dispersion ratio are defined asν33 andθ<SB>gF</SB>33 respectively, and a negative lens arranged on the object side of the positive lens. The fifth lens group has a positive lens composed of a material satisfying a condition ofν5pp×θ<SB>gF</SB>5pp>38 when an Abbe number and a partial dispersion ratio are defined asν5pp andθ<SB>gF</SB>5pp respectively, and when the focal distances of the third lens group and the positive lens in the third lens group are defined as f3 and f33 respectively, the zoom lens satisfies a condition of 1.0<f33/f3<2.5.
