Method to automatically determine the diameter of a disc shaped tool driven by a motor

The method involves driving the tool with a motor torque (MMot) with sinusoidal profile and measuring at two defined frequencies, measuring the amplitude of the motor's rotor revolution rate or the gearbox torque amplitude, computing the inertia of the tool based on a mathematical model and determining the tool diameter from a predefined comparison table or graph relating tool inertia to tool diameter. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a device for determining the saw blade diameter of a wall saw.
