In a method for warning a driver of a vehicle about a collision with an object in the course a parking operation, the distance of the vehicle to at least one object in the environment of the vehicle is detected, and if a specified minimum distance is undershot, the driver is warned to stop the vehicle or the vehicle is stopped automatically.
