The holding device (1) has two or multiple sectional strips (11) spaced apart from each other and firmly connected with the glass plates. A holding element is provided at the sectional strips. The holding element is formed of horizontally and vertically aligned journals. Two mutually spaced free supports (16) are mounted on a horizontally running front side (4) of masonry (3) such that the journals of the sectional strips are held firmly in the horizontal direction and are supported in vertical direction through the free supports of the sectional strips.
