<p>A bidirectional e.g. tidal water turbine comprises an upstream rotor module 52 and a downstream rotor module 54. The rotor modules 52, 54 carry a rotor 20, 22, which may be contra-rotating, and are individually removable from the turbine structure. The turbine can continue to operate, albeit at a reduced output, whilst one turbine module is removed, so that the turbine does not have to be completely shut down during maintenance. This arrangement may require reduced crane capacity compared with a turbine which can not be removed as modules. The turbine may be mounted in a tidal barrage 2.</p> |
