The vehicle body structure has a lower longitudinal beam and a fender (5) lying at the exterior of a vehicle. A spring strut retainer has a horizontally oriented fender system wall in an upper connection area (8). The spring strut retainer is applied and connected with the fender system wall on an assigned fender system opposite wall. An open space (16) is provided for a relative displacement between the spring strut retainer and fender. The fender is designed as a hollow fender, particularly made of a lightweight material, such as aluminum.
