<PICT:0821859/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0821859/IV (a)/2> <PICT:0821859/IV (a)/3> A process of making an ornamental and display sheet from thermoplastic resin comprises rapidly cooling the resin from a plastic state to a set whilst under asymmetrical stress to impart to the set resin a state of "plastic memory" forming the internally stressed resin into pellets or granules, arranging the pellets or granules in a layer, heating the layer to a temperature between the softening and melting point of the resin until the internal stresses relax and the pellets alter their shape, at least some of the pellets tilting with respect to the layer and cooling the layer to cause the softened pellets to adhere together to form the sheet. The resin may be polyethylene and the heating temperature be between 170 DEG C. and 210 DEG C. The pellets may be arranged upon and become adhered to a solid sheet of thermoplastic resin, paper or cloth. Differently coloured pellets may be used and may be arranged in definite designs. Resin 4 is extruded from a cylinder 1, is cooled and cut into pellets 10 by a knife 7. The pellets 10 may be arranged in an open mould 13 for the heating process. |
