In the present invention, there are described esters of L-carnitine and alkanoyl L-carnitines of the general formula I, liposomes containing them, the use of the liposomes for preparing a formulation intended for transportation of pharmacologically active compounds, such as naturally occurring or modified plasmid or polynucleotide, which are useful in gene therapy or which code for a peptide or protein useful as a vaccine or a medicament being selected from the group consisting of antiangiogenic or anticancer agents, such as taxol or camptothecin derivatives, pharmaceutical and cosmetic composition containing the liposome.
