PURPOSE: A communication system including decode and forward relay and communication apparatus for the communication system are provided to increase a coverage and a throughput of a cellular network using a pre-coder or a relay. CONSTITUTION: A third channel is recognized between a relay destination and a second channel of a relay using source and method of decode and forward(301). Two or more metrics corresponding to a diversity mode based on the third channel and the second channel are calculated(303). The two or more metrics corresponding to a spatial multiplexing mode based on the second channel and the third channel are calculated(305). One of MIMO mode is selected between the diversity mode and the spatial multiplexing mode based on two metrics(307). Information about the MIMO mode selected to source and a relay is received feedback(309).
